Swimming

Swimming is a popular sport that accommodates people of all ages and abilities, and offers significant opportunities for elite dwarf swimmers to compete in quadrennial cross-disability Paralympic Games.

   

The following individual events will be offered at the 2013 World Dwarf Games. Classification will apply in all age divisions except the Future Division.

    • Futures (age 6 & younger) - 12.5m flotation, 12.5m freestyle, 25m flotation, and 25m freestyle
    • Juniors (age 7-9, 10-12, and 13-15) - 25m flotation, 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke, 25m breaststroke, 25m butterfly, 100m individual medley
    • Open (any age) - 25m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 100 individual medley, 200m individual medley
    • Masters (35 years & older) - 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke, 25m breaststroke, 25m butterfly

A mixed-gender, mixed-classification 4 x 50m freestyle relay will be offered in the Open Division. A mixed-gender, mixed-classification, mixed-age 4 x 25m freestyle relay will be offered in the Junior Division.

    

Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) rules apply. Separate individual events are offered for males and females . In World Dwarf Games competitions, Open Division swimmers race in one of three classifications based on body proportions.
