Passport and Visa Requirements

Please contact the United States Embassy in your country to learn about passport and visa requirements and to seek help with these preparations.
   

Air Travel

The Greater Lansing area is served by several airports.

  • Capital Region International Airport in Lansing - Use a taxi service or rental car to travel to/from the airport and Athlete Village or hotels. Travel distance to campus is 8 miles (21 minutes).
  • Detroit Metro Airport in Detroit - Bus service to/from the Detroit airport and East Lansing is available on the Michigan Flyer. A rental car is another option. Travel distance to campus is 83 miles (1 hour, 26 minutes).
  • Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids - Use a rental car to travel to/from the airport and Athlete Village or hotels. There is no public transportation available. Travel distance to campus is 65 miles (1 hour and 6 minutes).
  • Bishop International Airport in Flint - Use a rental car to travel to/from the airport and Athlete Village or hotels. There is no public transportation available. Travel distance to campus is 45 miles (49 minutes).
         

We are aware that some participants have made plans to fly into O'Hare Airport in Chicago. The travel distance from O'Hare airport to campus is 240 miles.Travel options include: (a) airline travel; (b) Amtrak train service - www.amtrak.com; (c) Megabus service - http://us.megabus.com; and (d) rental car/van. The Amtrak and Megabus services depart from Union Station in downtown Chicago, accessible by the "L" Train (http://www.transitchicago.com/riding_cta/how_to_guides/ridingthetrain.aspx) from O'Hare Airport.
   

Ground Transportation for International Guests

Available ground transportation to/from airports is described above. In addition, international participants may contact Marge Carlisle ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) to discuss the possibility and costs of shuttle bus transportation to/from airports. This option may be especially attractive to participants who are traveling in groups. Be certain to indicate the number of people in your group, your arrival/departure airport, your place of lodging in the Lansing area, and the number of wheelchairs or scooters that must be transported. We do not have the resources to provide this service from Chicago O'Hare airport. The deadline for seeking assistance with ground transportation is July 15.
   

Train

Amtrak has a station in East Lansing, Michigan, about a half mile from the Athlete Village/Case Hall dormitory complex where most athletes will be housed. The East Lansing station code is LNS.
   

Bus Service

Bus service is provided by Greyhound Bus Lines and Indian Trails, Inc.
